In more than twenty-five years Han Tol has been in demand as a soloist and teacher throughout Europe, America and Japan. In addition to his teaching activities as professor at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, his teaching has included courses at the universities of Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Geneva, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Munich, Copenhagen, Utrecht, Baltimore, Bloomington (Indiana/USA) and Tokyo. He has led master classes for early music, e.g. in Innsbruck, Neuburg on the Danube, Urbino in Italy, Amherst (United States), Jerusalem and Valladolid, in Spain.
Han Tol’s concert life is remarkably versatile His ensemble “La Dada”, founded in 1984, has set new standards in the interpretation of Italian music of the 17th century. With the trio, La Fontegara Amsterdam, he has spent 20 years researching, (premiering) and recording the complete repertoire for this instrumentation. From 1999-2007 he was a member of the famous Belgian ensemble Flanders Recorder Quartet. With this group he has made countless concert tours to Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Mexico, America, Russia and Israel and played in the largest concert halls in Europe.
As an orchestral musician and soloist Han Tol has played with renowned conductors such as Leonhardt, Harnoncourt, Brüggen, Parrott, Goodman, McCreesh, Holman and Hengelbrock. With the “Freiburger Barockorchester” as well as with the “Balthasar Neumann-Ensemble” he has undertaken extensive concert tours and participated in numerous CD recordings. In March 2004 Han Tol conducted the “Balthasar Neumann-Ensemble” in a project with partly unreleased cantatas and instrumental works by G.Ph.Telemann. The sound result can be heard on CD: Perpetuum Mobile, published by Carus. .
You can hear Han Tol’s sonorous recorder playing on recordings of the record companies Teldec, Hyperion, Harmonia Mundi, EMI, OPUS 111, Aeolus and Globe. He has published arrangements of old works with the Heinrichshofen-Verlag in Wilhelmshafen.
On his travels he is accompanied by a selection of his exquisite recorder collection, including a rare alto recorder made of ivory, built around 1700 by Johann Benedikt Gahn, Nuremberg.
